US poised to add more points to big 8-4 lead

MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) ? This Ryder Cup is turning into a rout.

After taking a commanding 8-4 lead with a near-sweep Saturday morning in the foursomes, the Americans didn't even give Europe a chance to recover before starting the next romp. The U.S. had the lead in all but one of the fourball matches, with Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson leading the way at 4 up through 13 holes over Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari.

Only Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods were missing out on the fun ? again ? down 4 to Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald at the turn.

The Americans need 14 1/2 points to regain the Ryder Cup. The largest comeback in Ryder Cup history was at Brookline in 1999, when the U.S. erased a 10-6 deficit on the final day.

"I keep telling the guys we're not even halfway over with this tournament so far," captain Davis Love III said after the morning matches. "There's a lot of points left, let's keep doing what we're doing. They're buying into it, they're playing great."

Turning Medinah Country Club into a big lovefest, too. Roars of "U-S-A! U-S-A!" echoed throughout the sun-kissed course, and the U.S. point total changes so often fans are going to have whiplash from checking the scoreboards.

And this is with Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson sitting out the afternoon matches.

Bradley and Mickelson kick-started the Americans' big day in record-tying fashion, thrashing Lee Westwood and Luke Donald 7 and 6. The two are on such a roll they didn't even have to putt to win their first two holes. The Europeans conceded No. 1 when Mickelson put his second within 2 feet of the pin, and they gave the Americans No. 2 after Westwood put his tee shot in the water and missed the bogey putt.

Mickelson's gorgeous wedge set up Bradley with an 8-footer for birdie on No. 4, and he knocked it in easily, letting out a roar when the ball dropped into the cup. The Americans went 6 up when Donald had another putt lip out on 10, and the Europeans might as well have conceded then, the result was so inevitable.

Sure enough, two holes later, Mickelson played a perfect wedge from the rough, hitting the green about 20 feet left of the pin and trickling down a slope within a foot of the cup.

"Phil is a good partner to Keegan," Donald said. "He's obviously been a rock star this week, and they did nothing wrong."

The 7-and-6 win, in fact, matched the mark for most lopsided score in an 18-hole team match. Two other teams have won 7 and 6, both foursomes, with Paul Azinger and Mark O'Meara in 1991 the last to do it.

The victory made Bradley the first U.S. rookie to start 3-0 since Loren Roberts in 1995. And it handed Donald his second straight loss in foursomes after going unbeaten in his first six matches.

The U.S. got another big boost in the final match, Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker's 1-up victory over Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell.

The Northern Irish duo are considered Europe's top team, the No. 1 player in the world and the guy who delivered the winning point for Europe two years ago at Celtic Manor. But they've looked almost ordinary since Furyk and Snedeker forced them to grind out a victory in Friday's foursomes, and they couldn't overcome their slow start Saturday.

"We were just parring the place to death, which is not good enough in this format," McDowell said. "We just couldn't get the ball to go in the hole. Rory had a few putts in particular that burned some edges, and we just couldn't get any momentum going."

Take the last three holes. A nice iron by McDowell gave McIlroy an easy birdie putt on 16, and he made it to pare Furyk and Snedeker's lead to 1 up. But McIlroy followed that with a miss on a 15-footer that would have evened the match on 17.

McIlroy's monster drive on 18 put the Europeans in good position to scratch out a halve ? especially after Snedeker went in a bunker off the tee. But McDowell flew the green on the second shot, leaving McIlroy with a long putt from the fringe. He nearly made it, but his line was about a half-inch too far to the right and McIlroy groaned as he watched it roll on by.

When Snedeker got a 25-footer to about a foot, the Europeans conceded.

"We are in a hole," McDowell said. "These guys, there's blood in the water and they're up for it. They've got a head of steam up and we've got to try and stop it."

Education For Filing Bankruptcy in Nevada |

?

In order to file bankruptcy in Nevada (and elsewhere in the United States), you?ll have to undergo a certain amount of consumer education. This is required both before you file and before the court agrees to erase your debts.

The first step in applying for Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy is receiving credit counseling. This requirement was added by Congress in 2005 as part of a general effort to make it more difficult for consumers to apply for bankruptcy protection.

A consumer petitioning for bankruptcy must undergo a credit counseling course offered by a an agency that has been approved U.S. Trustee. You must do this within 180 days before filing a bankruptcy petition. These courses can be completed in person, online or by phone. If you don?t do it, your petition will be dismissed.

Credit counselors will closely examine your financial situation with you and explore whether you have alternatives to declaring bankruptcy. These might include arranging payment plans with your creditors, for example. Primarily credit counseling is a screening step, meant to weed out consumers who have tuned to bankruptcy without exhausting their other options. Even if your counselors suggest repayment, you can still file for bankruptcy.

More debtor education is required later in the bankruptcy process as well. Before the court will finally discharge your debts at the end of your Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 proceedings, you will have to complete a so-called debtor education course.

Unlike credit counseling, which focuses on your present situation, this two-hour course is all about the future. It teaches you skills for budgeting, saving and smart credit management.

If you?re seeking Chapter 7 protection, this course must be completed within 60 days of your creditor meeting. If you?re seeking Chapter 13 protection, it must be completed before you make the last payment on your repayment plan.

The U.S. Trustee maintains a list of acceptable agencies providing credit counseling and debt education courses. It can be found at www.justice.gov/ust under ?Consumer Information,? then ?Credit Counseling & Debtor Education.? Credit counselors can be found under ?Credit Counseling for Consumers,? while debtor education programs can be found under ?List of Approved Debtor Education Providers.?

If you?re seeking credit counseling to help resolve your debt, you should also discuss your situation with a bankruptcy attorney. Debt management is a complicated legal field, and a qualified professional can help you make the right decisions? about your financial problems.

Apple updates Aperture to 3.4.1, fixes installer bugs, more

Increases speed, fixes Facebook issue

Apple issued an update to Aperture late Friday, its pro-level photo-management and editing software. Version 3.4.1 is a bug-fix release, primarily addressing an installer issue in v3.4 that caused the application to quit on launch for some users due to accidentally corrupted preferences. The new version also improves the reliability of syncing photos to iOS devices via iTunes, cleans up a bug with downloading and viewing photos synced with Facebook albums, and generally improves overall stability.

The update, which is 550.5MB in size, requires 10.7.5 or higher (10.8.2 on Mountain Lion) and recommends users have at least 2GB of RAM onboard (1GB is the absolute minimum). Version 3.4, which came out 10 days ago, added support for Shared Photo Streams on OS X Mountain Lion, added a new File command to allow Aperture users to open and work with the current photo library from iPhoto, and also had general performance and stability enhancements.

Updates are available from the Mac App Store, Software Update or directly from Apple's support website.

Sony and Olympus have agreed on a business alliance that will see Sony invest 50 billion yen ($640 million) for an 11 percent stake in the embattled medical equipment and camera company. TOKYO (AP) ? Sony is expanding its sprawling electronics to movies business empire with a new venture ? looking inside the human body.

The company on Friday said it will spend 50 billion yen ($640 million) for an 11 percent stake in Olympus Corp., an embattled maker of endoscopes, which are the long thin camera-equipped instruments that allow medical professionals to peer inside the body.

The deal was widely expected as Sony president Kazuo Hirai had expressed interest in moving into the medical equipment business.

Olympus Corp. is the world's biggest maker of endoscopes and is also known for its cameras. It has been on shaky ground after its British chief executive Michael Woodford turned whistleblower and helped unearth a scandal involving a systematic cover-up of massive losses.

Sony Corp. has its own problems and is hoping new businesses will be part of its turnaround. Sony has reported losses for four straight years as it fell behind in portable music players, flat-panel TVs and smartphones. Sony's red ink for the latest fiscal year through March was the worst in its 66-year history.

The two companies said they will set up a new medical equipment company together later this year, 51 percent owned by Sony and the rest by Olympus.

The alliance between Sony and Olympus will focus on the camera business as well, and both sides can benefit from sharing their technology, and working together to become more competitive, they said. In such alliances, companies can share in procurement on parts, boosting their bargaining power with suppliers and lowering costs.

"I will do my best to make this meaningful and profitable for both Olympus and Sony," Hirai said in a statement. Sony will become the biggest shareholder in Olympus after acquiring the 11 percent stake.

Olympus President Hiroyuki Sasa said working with Sony will help shore up Olympus' finances, and that its endoscope business would benefit from Sony's image-sensor technology.

Sasa and Hirai plan a joint news conference Monday morning in Tokyo, where they will likely face questions about how two troubled Japanese companies getting together might lead to them competing more successfully on the global stage.

Earlier this week, Sasa was at the Tokyo District Court to enter a guilty plea for Olympus, along with three former executives who faced charges as individuals, in the opening session of a trial into the fraudulent financial reports.

Olympus has said it hid 117.7 billion yen ($1.5 billion) in investment losses dating to the 1990s.

Prosecutors outlined in detail the elaborate schemes concocted over the years, using overseas bank accounts, paper companies and transactions controlled behind-the-scenes, all to keep massive losses off the company books.

Apple apologizes for Maps flaws, recommends rivals

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Apple Inc Chief Executive Tim Cook apologized Friday to customers frustrated with glaring errors in its new Maps service, and, in an unusual move for the consumer giant, directed them to rival services instead, such as Google Inc's Maps.

The rare apology follows Apple's launch of its own mapping service earlier this month, when it began selling the iPhone 5 and rolled out iOS 6, the highly anticipated update to its mobile software platform.

Users complained that the new Maps service - based on Dutch navigation equipment and digital map maker TomTom NV's's data - contained geographical errors and gaps in information, and that it lacked features that made Google Maps so popular, including public transit directions, comprehensive traffic data or street view pictures.

"We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better," Cook said in a letter to customers released on its website, adding that the company "fell short" of its commitment to deliver "the best experience possible to our customers."

Unusually, he suggested that customers download rival mapping services available in Apple's App Store, while the company improves the product.

"While we're improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app," he said in the letter.

"It is a bit unusual but at the same time, Tim is keeping Apple's commitment to provide the best user experience for customers," Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu said. "A key reason for Apple's success is keeping customers happy so we think this is a good move."

"People forget that Google Maps started out inferior to Mapquest and Yahoo Maps," he added.

Apple is typically loathe to tout rival services and the contrite apology by Cook is an indication of how Apple is changing under the chief executive who took over last year from co-founder Steve Jobs just before his death.

Shares of Apple were down 1.8 percent in late morning trading at $669.22.

NEW APPLE

The last time Apple faced such widespread criticism was in 2010, when users complained of signal reception issues on the then-new iPhone 4 model.

A defiant Jobs at the time rejected any suggestion the iPhone 4's design was flawed, but offered consumers free phone cases at a rare, 90-minute press conference called to address those complaints.

While Apple fixed the issue, Jobs had apologized to users only after he was specifically asked if he was sorry. He also said the issue was shared by all the major manufacturers, naming rivals Research in Motion, Samsung Electronics and HTC Corp specifically.

Cook's suggestion that Apple users download other map apps, particularly Google Maps, represents an about-turn for Apple, which had introduced its service as a direct challenge to the popular service offered by ally-turned-rival Google.

Apple Maps replaced the Google Maps app, which is no longer available on iOS 6. Users now have to access Google Maps through the browser.

Cook said that more that more than 100 million iOS devices are using the new Apple Maps and that the more people use Maps, the better it will get. He also offered some hints on why the company decided to remove Google Maps.

Apple launched the Google-powered Maps "initially with the first version of iOS" and the company created a home-grown version of the service as it wanted to provide more features, Cook said.

"As time progressed, we wanted to provide our customers with even better Maps including features such as turn-by-turn directions, voice integration, Flyover and vector-based maps," he said in the letter.

Google provides turn-by-turn navigation on Android-based devices but the popular feature was not available for Apple devices.

Google and Apple were close partners with the original iPhone in 2007 and its inclusion of YouTube and Google Maps. But ties between the two companies have been strained by the rise of Google's Android mobile operating system, now the world's leading platform for smartphones.

Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said earlier this week that it has not submitted a new Google Maps app to Apple, but added the search giant talks to the Cupertino-based company "every day."

DEAR ABBY: My husband and I just got some shocking news. His father -- age 81 -- is leaving his wife of 60 years! Mom is not entirely self-sufficient and seems dependent on him.Dad found himself a younger woman -- a "chick" of 70. He has announced that he still has sexual needs and wants to enjoy the rest of his life. My husband thinks it will be a short-term fling and he'll return to Mom, but she says she won't be taking him back. (Who knows how she'll feel later?)My problem is, no matter what happens between them, I'm having a hard time even considering forgiving him for his selfishness. ...

MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) ? Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson birdied their first hole and never looked back.

The winners of the year's first two majors earned the first U.S. point in fourballs Friday with a 5-and-4 victory over Paul Lawrie and Peter Hanson, and the Americans were poised to add a few more to the lead before the afternoon was done. They had multi-hole leads in two other fourball matches.

The only source of trouble was Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker ? again.

Watson and Simpson birdied seven of their first eight holes, and their lone par ? on No. 2 ? was still good enough to win the hole. When Watson made putts from inside 8 feet for birdies on Nos. 6, 7 and 8, the question wasn't if they'd win, but whether if they'd do it in record fashion. They did not, and the Europeans actually won a hole on Lawrie's 5-footer on 11.

But that only delayed the inevitable. On the green in two on the par-5 14th, Watson needed only to two-putt from 45 feet to end the match. He got close enough on the first try, and the Europeans conceded the putt.

Air Force experts knew about F-22 breathing flaw

KADENA AIR BASE, Japan (AP) ? Years before F-22 pilots began getting dizzy in the cockpit, before one struggled to breathe as he tried to pull out of a fatal crash, before two more went on television to say the plane was so unsafe they refused to fly it, a small circle of U.S. Air Force experts knew something was wrong with the prized stealth fighter jet.

Coughing among pilots and fears that contaminants were leaking into their breathing apparatus led the experts to suspect flaws in the oxygen-supply system of the F-22 Raptor, especially in extreme high-altitude conditions in which the $190 million aircraft is without equal. They formed a working group a decade ago to deal with the problem, creating an informal but unique brain trust.

Internal documents and emails obtained by The Associated Press show they proposed a range of solutions by 2005, including adjustments to the flow of oxygen into pilot's masks. But that key recommendation was rejected by military officials reluctant to add costs to a program that was already well over budget.

"This initiative has not been funded," read the minutes of their final meeting in 2007.

Minutes of the working group's meetings, PowerPoint presentations and emails among its members reveal a missed opportunity for the Air Force to improve pilot safety in the 187-plane F-22 fleet before a series of high-profile problems damaged the image of an aircraft that was already being assailed in Congress as too costly. Its production was halted last spring and the aircraft has never been used in combat.

Among the problems reported after the working group's warnings:

? In 2008, pilots began reporting a sharp increase in hypoxia-like problems, forcing the Air Force to finally acknowledge concerns about the F-22's oxygen supply system.

? Two years later, the oxygen system contributed to a fatal crash. Though pilot error ultimately was deemed to be the cause, the fleet was grounded for four months in 2011.

? New restrictions were imposed in May, after two F-22 pilots went on the CBS program "60 Minutes" to express their continued misgivings.

The Air Force says the F-22 is safe to fly ? a dozen of the jets began a six-month deployment to Japan in July ? but flight restrictions that remain in place will keep it out of the high-altitude situations where pilots' breathing is under the most stress.

One of the working group's proposed fixes, a backup oxygen system, is expected to be in place by the end of the year. And the Air Force, which blamed the oxygen shortage on a faulty valve in the pilots' vests, says a fix to that problem is also in the works. The working group also proposed changes in warning systems to alert pilots to system failures and urged enhanced tracking of potential health hazards to pilots and ground crew caused by the materials used to bolster the aircraft's stealth ? two more issues the Air Force investigations would later focus on.

More broadly, the Air Force now concedes that while its own experts were tackling the F-22's issues, it was too aggressive in cutting back on life-support programs intended to ensure pilots' safety. It is now in the process of rebuilding them.

The F-22's gradual return to regular flight operations follows an exhaustive investigation over the past year by the Air Force, NASA, experts from Lockheed Martin, which produces the aircraft, and other industry officials.

But the documents obtained by AP show many of the concerns raised in that investigation had already been outlined by the working group that was formed in 2002, when the fighter was still in its early production and delivery stage.

It called itself RAW-G, for Raptor Aeromedical Working Group, and brought together dozens of experts in life support, avionics, physiology and systems safety, along with F-22 aircrew and maintainers.

The group was founded by members of the F-22 community who were concerned about how the unique demands of the aircraft could affect pilots. The fighter can evade radar and fly faster than sound without using afterburners, capabilities unmatched by any other country. It also flies higher than its predecessors and has a self-contained oxygen generation system to protect pilots from chemical or biological attack.

According to the Air Force, RAW-G was created at the suggestion of Daniel Wyman, then a flight surgeon at Florida's Tyndall Air Force Base, where the first F-22 squadron was being deployed. Wyman is now a brigadier general and the Air Combat Command surgeon general.

By the time RAW-G got going, some pilots were already experiencing a problem called "Raptor cough" ? fits of chest pain and coughing dating back to 2000 that stem from the collapse of overworked air sacs in the lungs.

The group concluded that the F-22's On-Board Oxygen Generation System ? or OBOGS ? was giving pilots too much oxygen, causing the coughing. The more often and higher the pilots flew after being oxygen-saturated, group members believed, the more vulnerable pilots affected by the condition would be to other physiological incidents.

RAW-G recommended more tests and that the F-22's oxygen delivery system be adjusted through a digital controller and a software upgrade.

"The schedule would provide less oxygen at lower altitudes than the current schedule, which has been known to cause problems with delayed ear blocks and acceleration atelectasis," the technical term for the condition that leads to the coughing, according to the minutes from RAW-G's final meeting.

RAW-G members had spent two years pushing for the change in the oxygen schedule ? the amount of oxygen pumped into pilots' life-support systems ? but the necessary software upgrade never came through.

"The cost was considered prohibitive in light of other items that people wanted funded for the F-22," said Kevin Divers, a former Air Force physiologist who spearheaded RAW-G until he left the service in 2007 and the group disbanded.

Divers believes the cost would have been about $100,000 per aircraft.

The link between oxygen saturation at lower altitudes and the recent spate of hypoxia-like incidents at high altitudes remains a matter of debate, and it is likely that there are other contributing factors. Both the Air Force and the NASA, however, now concur that the F-22's oxygen schedule needs to be revised.

At a House subcommittee hearing this month, Clinton Cragg, the chief engineer for NASA's Engineering and Safety Center, said the current schedules provide too much oxygen at lower altitudes ? as RAW-G warned ? and also agreed with RAW-G that testing was insufficient "even back to the beginning of the program."

Lt. Col. Tadd Sholtis, a spokesman for the Air Combat Command at Virginia's Langley-Eustis Air Force Base, the home base for the F-22s deployed in Japan, said the RAW-G group was not meant to last indefinitely. He said it was set up to help officials at Tyndall get up to speed on the medical aspects of flying the F-22, and disbanded "after several meetings and a safe transition to regular F-22 operations at Tyndall."

But even in the last days of the group, its members were identifying more work that needed to be done. In an email to Divers before RAW-G's final meeting, Wyman said health hazards for F-22 pilots and ground crew needed more study.

"I am interested in the potential physiologic/health issues related to flying and fixing the F-22s," he wrote. He added that increased gravitational forces during accelerated turns, high speeds and high altitudes, noise and the "low observable" materials used to give the aircraft its stealth qualities "might lead to new health issues."

By then, the F-22 was just one of the aircraft RAW-G was concerned with. Minutes from the final meeting include "action items" identifying potential issues with the F-35 and the CV-22 Osprey, and a suggestion that RAW-G's work be carried on with higher-level oversight so that it would have more clout. But after Divers left the service, no one took up the torch.

The Air Force says it believes improvements now being put into place make the planes safe to fly under limited restrictions. It is now refitting all pilot life support gear, redesigning the vests so that modified versions can be introduced in the fall, and adding the automated backup oxygen system in the cockpit by the end of the year.

In the meantime, the F-22s in Japan must fly under 44,000 feet so that the flawed vests will not be required, and are on a 30-minute "tether," meaning they must be within 30 minutes of an emergency landing site.

"While we cannot eliminate risk from flight operations, we are confident the F-22 is safe now and on a path to being as safe as any other fighter we fly," Sholtis said.

The Air Force says there have been no breathing-related incidents in the F-22 fleet since March 8, though the aircraft has marked more than 9,000 sorties, or 12,000 flight hours, since then.

"We won't ever bury anything if there are issues, but so far, none," said Brig. Gen. Matthew Molloy, an F-22 pilot and commander of the 18th Wing on Japan's Kadena Air Base. "This airplane is absolutely vital to our national security."

The F-22's woes have been especially troubling for the Air Force because it is in many ways its showcase aircraft ? and its most controversial. At $190 million apiece, not counting development costs, it was lambasted in Congress as an overpriced luxury item not suited to current conflicts.

But the flurry of investigations into its safety problems have also revealed a more fundamental issue within the Air Force itself: decades of budget-cutting and outsourcing that severely compromised its expertise on what kinds of physiological problems pilots might face when flying in the extremely demanding conditions posed by its most advanced aircraft.

"Over the past 20 years, the capabilities and expertise of the USAF to perform the critical function of Human Systems Integration have become insufficient," Gregory Martin, who led the study into its oxygen problems for the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board investigation that began in 2011, told the House subcommittee.

Martin said the program's decline cost the Air Force expertise on life support systems, altitude physiology and pilot health and safety. He said that was compounded by "inadequate research, knowledge, and experience for the unique operating environment of the F-22."

Maj. Gen. Charles Lyon, the Air Combat Command's director of operations, concurred with those conclusions at a news conference last month. "We probably overshot the mark on how much downsizing we did in this study of physiology," he said.

Divers considers the demise of RAW-G to be emblematic of that decline.

"The RAW-G became a brain trust, for sure, and it pushed various things that otherwise would have been completely ignored or not even brought up as an issue," Divers said. "All of that died in 2007."

Growing Its Influence, Klout Gets Strategic Investment From Microsoft ? And Serious Bing Integration

Screen Shot 2012-09-27 at 2.56.49 PMKlout hasn't just defied influential tech pundits, its social reputation scorecard has won them over. Now the sometimes-controversial startup is aiming at search. The startup has just signed a strategic investment and partnership with Microsoft that, on top of new funding, will create a product and business relationship with the Bing team. You'll begin seeing Klout scores -- the combined measure of a person's influence across Twitter, Facebook and other social networks -- show up in the search engine today. The initial implementation will show Klout scores for friends in the "People Who Know" section of the right-hand column, alongside other third parties already in there, including Twitter and Quora. Search for a hot topic like "Facebook advertising", you'll see people with socially-proven expertise showing up. Mouse over an expert's name, and their Klout score will appear, along with their Klout-determined areas of expertise.

Cisco acquires WiFi data firm ThinkSmart Technologies

DNP Cisco acquires WiFi data analyst firm ThinkSmart Technologies

Networking kingpin Cisco announced on Wednesday that it had acquired ThinkSmart Technologies, a company that analyzes location data by using WiFi technology. ThinkSmart's tech reviews a network's infrastructure by evaluating the movement of its users, traffic patterns and hours of operation. The firm then uses these analytics to help companies optimize network and staffing configurations for business operations -- a long way of saying that it's smart enough to tell a company how to better manage information flows through a network. The terms of this deal have yet to be released, but Cisco seems to think this was a smart pick up.

PFT: Reggie Bush could miss week or two

Tramon Williams, Charles Woodson, Charly Martin, M.D. Jennings, Golden TateAP

What a Monday night. What a controversial ending.

On the final play of a back-and-forth Monday Night Football game, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson chucked a Hail Mary into the end zone, where Seahawks receiver Golden Tate and Packers defensive back M.D. Jennings both leapt into the air and grabbed for it, then tumbled on the ground together, both with their hands on the ball. The officials ruled that it was simultaneous possession, which goes to the offense. Therefore, according to the officials, it was a Seahawks game-winning touchdown with no time left.

But should it have been a touchdown? Or should it have been an interception? Jennings appeared to have a firm grasp on the ball, while Tate just had an arm on the ball ? which would make it a Packers interception, and a Packers win. But the officials standing in the end zone said Tate had the ball, too, and the referee confirmed that call after a replay review. Touchdown, Seattle, on the final play of the game.

But was it the final play of the game? Or would the Seahawks have to try an extra point after that touchdown? Both teams and the officials left the field after the touchdown, and it appeared that the final score would be Seahawks 13, Packers 12. But after a long delay the officials finally told both teams that they had to come back on the field for the Seahawks to attempt an extra point. Seattle made it, and the final was 14-12.

Under the crazy circumstances of the final play it seemed like a lucky win for the Seahawks, but Wilson said after the game that there was nothing lucky about Tate?s catch.

?We practice that all the time and Golden Tate made a play,? Wilson said after the game.

The Seahawks had controlled the first half, sacking Aaron Rodgers eight times and forcing the Packers to punt on all five of their first-half possessions, but Green Bay took control in the second half. The Packers started the second half with a 13-play, 70-yard drive that resulted in a field goal, then had an 11-play, 66-yard drive that resulted in another field goal, then had a 16-play, 81-yard drive that resulted in the go-ahead touchdown. Rodgers was in complete control, and the offensive line was keeping him upright and opening holes for Cedric Benson.

But the Seahawks got the ball with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter, trailing 12-7, and they still had a prayer. That?s all they needed. Wilson got Seattle close enough for that one final play, and he made the throw Seattle needed him to make on that one final play.

Even if you think the officials got the final play right (and Packers fans will insist that they didn?t, and Jennings intercepted the pass, not to mention the fact that Tate appeared to push off before jumping up for the ball), the replacement officials were every bit as bad as we?ve all come to expect. An absolutely horrible pass interference call on Packers cornerback Sam Shields late in the fourth quarter sticks out as the worst mistake in a game full of them. This was a crazy game ? a crazy amount of pressure on Rodgers in the first half, a crazy Green Bay comeback in the second half, a crazy Hail Mary on the last play, and crazy officiating. Let?s all go to bed and talk more about this one in the morning.

MySpace is ready for a big comeback, says Justin Timberlake

MySpace was huge. The social network had millions of users before Facebook shoved it aside. But now, Justin Timberlake and two investors have announced big plans for a rebuilt MySpace.

By Pamela Cyran / September 25, 2012

Justin Timberlake poses at the premiere of "Trouble with the Curve." The musician and actor has purchased MySpace with two business partners.

A "new MySpace" waits just around the corner, says Justin Timberlake, who purchased the once-massive social network with two investors.

When media titan News Corp. first purchased MySpace in July, 2005, for $580 million, the thought of selling it just six years later for $35 million was unthinkable. But it happened. Now, a year later, plans for MySpace's next evolution are finally revealed.

Over the last three years, MySpace lost hundreds of millions in revenue and went through extensive layoffs, cutting over half their employees. Currently the MySpace audience is only?54 million.?Compared to Facebook's nearly 1 billion members,?many consider MySpace to be extinct.

On June 30, News Corp. sold?MySpace to singer-turned-actor Justin Timberlake and Chris and Tim Vanderhook. Their plan is to completely rebuild the site from scratch.

The redesigned MySpace now puts music at its center. It's a place for artists to connect with their fans.

?In a single sentence, it?s a social network for the creative community to connect to their fans,? Tim Vanderhook told The Hollywood Reporter. ?We?re going after artists, right after this we?ll be talking to various artists to come on the platform. We want to give them a chance to help build it with us. We?re really far along, but we really want that last twenty percent to really be crafted by more people like Justin that actually know the tools and things that they need.?

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Timberlake?s role is obvious when it comes to promoting and recruiting, however, he won?t reveal who will be his first targets. Eventually, the site will reach out to undiscovered talent and their fans.

?So it?s not about just the established, it?s also about the unsigned,? Chris Vanderhook said in The Hollywood Reporter article.

A new feature will allow fans to be profiled on their favorite artists? page. In other words, Timberlake admirers may one day see their picture on his page with the caption ?#1 fan.? The new co-owners believe that this method of connecting fans and artists will be a big attention-grabber for potential users.

Recently, Timberlake posted a teaser video on Twitter?revealing the new MySpace. According to MTV News, the interface looks ?a bit like Facebook-meets-Instagram, with hints of Pinterest and Windows 8.?

Among other things, users can peruse not only their friends? photos, but playlists as well. The new ?trending? tab shows everything from schedules of bands performing on late-night shows to magazine profiles of artists. For easy sharing and connecting, the new design features a drag-and-drop method.

However, even with all the new attractive bells and whistles, MySpace will still have to compete with the social network that wounded MySpace in the first place: Facebook.

Is He Relationship Material ? 3 Lessons I Learned From Computer Analysts

I am not a computer engineer but I have always been close to them, many members of my family and some friend work in fields related to computer science. How does my knowledge of the secrets of computer analysts' work relate to finding the correct man for a healthy, fulfilling relationship?

Detailed Requirement Analysis is essential

When computer experts start to develop software, they need to study the situation and come out with a set of detailed requirements the software has to fulfill.

Which is the lesson here? You must sit and write down what your desired man should have before you go out trying to find him. Many women would think this is a waste of time, but doing this has two clear benefits.

By writing down what you are looking for in a man helps to determine what exactly you are looking for. The same happens with software development, writing down the software requirements helps to find inconsistencies or missing things you need to know before starting or during the development.

Maybe you are looking for a man with some characteristics that are often incompatible in a single person. The second benefit of writing down the must have's for the man takes us to the next lesson.

Requirements need to be validated during development or testing phase

By having the list of must have's at hand, the woman will be able to determine if a man passes the list. The same happens with software development, where computer analysts need to have the list of requirements at hand to be sure that what they are constructing doesn't go against the requirements.

In addition, there are some characteristics that maybe are difficult to check in the first dates. That is why you need to have your list at hand to be testing if your man still is what you want.

In software development happens the same, when the software is tested, at the end of the development needs to be validated against the requirements.

Don't allow changes in the requirements without a detailed study of the impact

What sometimes happen in software development is that changes in requirements are introduced without a complete study of how this impacts in the software and the rest of the requirements.

This teaches us that changes in what we are looking for in a man should be analyzed. Perhaps you start to date with a man who passes almost all the must have's of the list but there are a few that not; you may be tempted to delete that items from the list.

You can do that, but before deleting those items, the list should be analyzed and studied again.

Following these secrets, if you are looking for serious relationship, you will be able to determine if your man is relationship material.

New method for identifying and measuring secreted proteins over time

It is much harder to keep up with a conversation in a crowded bar than in a quiet little caf, but scientists wishing to eavesdrop on cells can now do so over the laboratory equivalent of a noisy room. A new method devised by scientists at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in collaboration with the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ), both in Heidelberg, Germany, provides a new approach for studying the proteins cells release to communicate with each other, react to changes, or even to help them move. Published online today in Nature Biotechnology, the work also opens new avenues for drug and biomarker screening.

Cells in the lab have to be fed, and the 'serum' used to feed them contains proteins many more proteins than the cells themselves secrete, or release into their environment. So for scientists attempting to eavesdrop on cells' conversations, it's like the cells are sitting in a room bustling with impenetrable chatter until now. The new method developed by Jeroen Krijgsveld and colleagues allows scientists to distinguish proteins secreted by the cells from those in their food. And as they can measure exactly how much of each protein the cells have released, at just 2-hour intervals, scientists can see how secretion changes over time, for instance in response to changes in the cells' environment.

The EMBL scientists coax cells into using an artificial amino acid instead of the methionine they would normally employ as one of the building blocks for their proteins. The researchers can then fish out the proteins released by the cells from the surrounding serum, using a technique called click chemistry. This does away with the need to starve cells, which was so far the most reliable way of being sure you were not 'counting' proteins from the serum. And this is an important development, as the new approach showed that starving cells, even just for a few hours, affects secretion.

The double advantage of not having to starve cells and being able to follow changes over time enabled Krijgsveld and colleagues to follow, for the first time, how white blood cells called macrophages which can't be grown without serum react to a component of bacteria to kick off a rapid immune response.

"There's much more for the community to explore," Krijgsveld says: "our method could be used to watch how cells react to drug treatments; or to search for biomarkers, like the proteins cancer cells release that help them invade tissues; or to see how secretion changes if cells are grown in 3D instead of on a regular Petri dish. We've really seen a great deal of interest already."

As well as continuing to investigate the intricacies of secretion, Krijgsveld's lab now plan to use their new approach to study how cancer cells respond to drugs.

Health Canada to review GM corn study, promises action

SARAH SCHMIDT
Postmedia News
September 23, 2012

Health Canada said this week it will take action if its review of a new study, which found Canadian-grown genetically modified corn is linked to elevated risks of cancer, organ damage and premature death in rats, ?demonstrates a risk? to Canadians.

The first-ever GM food safety study to test the entire life span of laboratory rats, newly published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, also found health impacts for rats exposed to Monsanto?s herbicide Roundup, the widest-selling herbicide in the world.

The French study, while challenged by some experts, is being taking seriously by the French government. On Thursday, it ordered an urgent review of the study assessing the safety of GM corn and said it will work for a Europewide ban of imports of the crop if the findings were found to be conclusive.

In Canada, where the GM corn is grown and used for animal feed and processed food ingredients, Health Canada said it would be premature to offer its assessment, saying departmental scientists are currently reviewing the findings.
