On June 19, 2012, Missouri State Director for USDA Rural Development, Anita J. Dunning presented a certificate of congratulations to Juana De La Fuente for becoming a successful homeowner by making use of the Rural Development Home Loan Program.

De La Fuente, with the help of USDA Rural Development, was able to purchase her first home for herself as well as her family. De La Fuente was assisted in finding her home by Nelda Morgan, who is with Century 21 in Kennett.

In a statement released, U.S. Representative, Jo Ann Emerson stated, "It's extraordinary when we have the opportunity to work at the individual level in our communities to make the dream of homeownership a reality. I am very proud to congratulate Ms. De La Fuente and her family on the result of all of her hard work to achieve this goal."

Rural Development provides assistance to very low, low, and moderate income families in the local rural communities. The loans, financed for a term of 33 years, may also be extended to 38 years, under certain conditions.

The purpose of the loan is to give families financing at low interest rates and no down payment. Applicants can use the housing loan to either purchase an existing home or purchase a site to construct.

Families or individuals looking to apply for a loan must meet certain criteria. According to the USDA, some of the criteria to be met includes: Must be a U. S. citizen; use the home to be purchased or built as a primary residence; be of legal age to incur a loan obligation; must have an acceptable credit history; must have repayment ability; be unable to obtain credit through a conventional lender; and the home to be purchased or built must be in a rural area.
